Term 3 has been a very dynamic term with preparations for the redevelopment well underway along with fantastic opportunities in school and through extra-curricular activities. We started the term with diggers and machines throughout the school as the “early works” began to lay new fibre cable throughout the site. I commend all our students on the respectful way they engaged with the workers on site during this time and the way they showed resilience to adapt to the daily and weekly challenges that the works presented. With fences erected and the grounds being dug up it has been a great sign of things to come.
We are currently busy preparing our new Administration and Leadership spaces which will be ready for the start of Term 4. Access to the school will change for students and families and alongside of this we will have new branding of the school which we will be excited to share. Some of this can be seen already on the front digital screen on the main road. We will be sharing updated access to the school and internal changes to families by the end of this term.
Preparation for Term 4 and the major building works continue, and we have needed to undertake a process of “decanting”. This is where we have needed to relocate a number of staff, students and functions from the buildings that will be demolished as part of the redevelopment to other areas of the school. We have currently moved; two Grade 8 classes, our Blended/Evolve program, our three Grade 9 classes as well as staff offices and our free lunch program.
A highlight of the term so far has been our annual book week celebrations with a number of students and staff dressing as their favourite book character to celebrate the week and the importance of reading. Alongside of this Science week provided an opportunity for our Grade 7 students to participate in an excursion to the Waterworks to test out some science investigations into forest types, food chains and measurement of wind, temperature and light. Our Footy Colours Day was also a great way to enjoy fun activities such as longest kicking and target handballing as well as a staff v students netball game while dressing up in our favourite footy team colours (go the Demons).
Grade 10 Transition and enrolment sessions with Claremont College and Elizabeth College have occurred for our students as they prepare for their important transition into the next phase of their education. This can present as an exciting, yet daunting experience and our staff are available to talk through subject offerings and pathways from now until the end of the year. A number of work experience and work-based learning opportunities have been arranged for our Grade 10 and Grade 9 students during this term which will continue into Term 4. These opportunities are the ideal way for students to gain future aspirations about their education and career.
On the sporting field we have experienced great success with our Netball teams who have participated and won the recent Reclink Northern conference competition with Jamal and Chloe receiving Most Valuable Player awards. We have also been successful winning the Grade 9/10 Boys School competition and more recently won the Netball gala day among a number of other high schools. Earlier in the term we were also successful winning the Reclink Football Gala Day for AFL 9’s.
In continuing the great opportunities for students we have seen a number of our Grade 7 students participate in the STEM Conference It Takes a Spark Grok Academy STEM Conference as well as participate as members of the Cosgrove High School Chess team where they will compete in a chess Championship in the coming weeks.
Our Grade 8 students continue to engage in a number of interventions and support with great success. We are very proud of the opportunities we are able to provide our students and commend them on the way they continue to engage and respect these opportunities and look forward to further programs evolving in Term 4.
Uniform
Wearing the school uniform is important for students to instil a sense of identity and pride within our school community. Science Week - Grade 7
Grade 7s participated in science week with a visit to the Materials Institute.
While we were there we made lotions, drinks, decorated ceramic plates, made tote bags using indigo and purified water. Some students showed us their dance moves including the Catwalk, Time to Get Funky and the Nutbush. For lunch we had spicy rice and bean burritos with coleslaw and sour cream. We finished the day with a visit to the park. A great day out for the whole grade!!

Footy Colours Day 2023
Friday 1st of September was Footy Colours Day and what a great day it was!
Students were able to enjoy some activities on the oval in the beautiful weather, test their sports knowledge in a class quiz, take the staff on in netball match and else have a yummy bbq lunch.
It was great to see so many students participate, have fun and take the staff on in the competitions!
We can’t wait to see who had the longest kick… Mr Glancy, Mr Arnold or one of our students???
Thank you to the Prefects for organising the activities!

Year 11/12 Catering Class
Staff enjoyed a beautiful morning tea recently courtesy of some of our talented Year 11 and 12 students.
These students had to plan an event so chose a morning tea; they designed the menu, made a range of foods and served these delights to staff members.
Feedback was that everything was delicious!
Well done!

Well done to all; it has been a week of great sportsmanship, team work and dedication.
Thanks to all the staff involved in supporting these teams!

Reclink
It was a joy to watch Chloe dominate across both the round-robin and finals stages of the tournament.
Switching between GA and GS, Chloe excelled as a shooter and facilitator for her teammates as Cosgrove went undefeated on Monday to be crowned Northern Conference Champions. But it was her performances against the schools represented heavily by club players, that drew the attention of the MVP selection panel.
Congratulations, Chloe - we get the feeling Netball is in your future!!
