End of Term 3 2025
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Cosgrove High School – End of Term 3 Newsletter
As Term 3 draws to a close, we reflect on a busy and rewarding period of learning, growth, and community spirit at Cosgrove High School.
In our Wellbeing lessons, students have continued to explore and live out our school values. Next term, the focus shifts to Respect, a value we are excited to embed even further in classroom learning, everyday interactions, and the way we support each other as a community.
Excitement is building as we edge closer to the completion of our redevelopment project at the end of Term 4. Preparations are already underway for staff and students to begin moving into new spaces at the start of 2026. This will mark an incredible new chapter for our school. Despite ongoing changes to internal and external access caused by the works, our staff and students have shown remarkable resilience and adaptability. Their efforts will soon be rewarded with outstanding new facilities including:
- A new administration and student services area
- A catering kitchen
- A dance and drama room
- Three brand new classrooms
- A modern canteen
- A cultural centre
- Informal gathering spaces for assemblies and indoor breaks
- New staff rooms
- A purpose-built music facility
- School leadership spaces
Externally, the redevelopment will deliver two new basketball courts, improved shelter, relocated bus bays at the front of the school, updated landscaping, new seating areas, and a culturally significant yarning circle.
This term has also been filled with enriching opportunities beyond the classroom. Grade 8 students had a fantastic time at the Marine Discovery Centre, where highlights included driving the boat and handling local marine life. Students were also inspired when Jack Jumpers Head Coach, Scott Roth, visited the school. His motivational speech and thoughtful responses to student questions left a lasting impression.
Our annual House Challenge Day once again proved to be a highlight of the term. From endless football games and the creation of wooden pallet seats to stunning artwork and delicious MasterChef-style cakes, the day was filled with energy, teamwork, and creativity.
The Term 3 Dojo Shop was another great success, giving students the chance to trade in their hard-earned dojo currency for exciting rewards such as Nike shoes, Lego sets, and clothing. This opportunity is made possible through our valued partnership with the charitable organisation Good360.
We have also continued to thrive in our partnership with the Sustainability Centre at Hobart College, where students have engaged in important learning experiences as part of the Children’s University program.
Engagement with families remains a vital part of our work. This term, more than 70 families attended our Learning Conversation evening, taking the time to explore student evidence of learning. We also thank the 60+ families who contributed to our annual Family Satisfaction Survey. Your feedback is vital in guiding us forward to meet the needs of every student.
Looking ahead, Term 4 is shaping up to be full of exciting opportunities. Highlights will include:
- Grade-based reward days
- The Grade 10 Celebration Dinner
- Children’s University Graduation
- Athletics Carnival
- Annual Prize Day and Grade 10 final assembly
- Claremont College Taster Day for Grade 9 students
- Grade 7 Orientation Day
- Grade 10 Transition Day at Claremont College
With the warmer weather, the completion of our redevelopment project, and a wide range of activities to look forward to, Term 4 is sure to fly by. We will also be conducting PAT testing, giving us valuable evidence of student growth in Reading and Numeracy, and enabling us to plan for success in 2026.
Importantly, we are proud to note that Term 3 recorded the lowest number of suspensions for this time of year in the past four years. This reflects the increasingly settled and positive environment across our school.
We thank our staff, students, and families for their ongoing resilience and support and wish everyone a safe and restful holiday break.

Prefect Report
As we reach the end of the term, we would like to reflect on the events, learning and achievements of the past few weeks.
Many of our students have been able to attend excursions; including visiting TasTafe, chess competitions, sports activities and we have also welcomed Year Six students as they start the transition process. We have had many of our student leaders engaged with the transition program which has given them a chance to develop their leadership skills more.
What a fantastic House Challenge Day we had last Friday! We got to choose and participate in a range of activities, from netball, soccer, badminton, football, and basketball at Swisherr, to a walking group heading to Cornelian Bay. Those were just the sport options, we also had an art group creating beautiful art on canvases, a junkyard team building garden furniture for the school, and a MasterChef crew baking and decorating cakes for judging.
A huge thank you to all the staff, and students for your energy, teamwork, and creativity. This was a brilliant display of house spirit and a reminder of how much we can achieve when we come together.
We wish everyone a restful and relaxing holidays; and look forward to many more exciting opportunities in term four!
Marine Discovery Centre Excursion
Year Eight students are visiting Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday!
Students are exploring marine life, taking scientific measurements on a boat, and even got to steer it!

Scott Roth – Jack Jumpers
We were lucky enough to have Scott Roth visit and share his wisdom with our students. He spoke about the importance of courage and resilience, encouraged students to embrace every opportunity, strive for their goals, and what life can look like if you set yourself goals.
Our students asked some fantastic questions, making the conversation interactive and engaging. To top it all off, a few passionate Jack Jumper fans had the chance to get memorabilia signed. Leaving us with some very happy basketballers at Cosgrove today!
A huge thank you to Scott and the Jack Jumpers team for supporting this school visit and inspiring our students.

House Challenge Day
On Friday the 19th of September, Cosgrove High School held its annual House Challenge Day. Students took part in a variety of activities, giving everyone the chance to contribute and represent their house.
A group of students travelled to Swisherr, where they completed basketball drills, developed their skills, and played a series of games. On campus, competitions included a football tournament, a soccer tournament, and several netball matches. Each game was competitive and played in good spirits.
Not all activities were sport focused. In the MasterChef Challenge, teams decorated cakes with creativity and attention to detail. The Junkyard Challenge asked students to use recycled materials to construct sculptures, encouraging problem-solving and teamwork. Another group completed a walk to Cornelian Bay, enjoying the opportunity to spend time outdoors together.
The day ran smoothly, and all students were actively involved. It was a positive way to finish the week and highlight the strengths of the Cosgrove High School community.

Halloween Disco
We are looking forward to our upcoming Halloween disco!
Students can collect a permission letter from their AST, in order to purchase a ticket!

ROYW Hobart PCYC
Last week, our students participating in the ROYW Hobart PCYC Program attended a spray paint art workshop at Montrose Foreshore which was taken by Joel from Glenorchy City Council.
The young people were shown how to create a planet with a backdrop using spray paint and various techniques for altering texture and look.
They created some amazing masterpieces!

Children’s University
This year our Children’s University students have been to the Sustainability Learning Centre 4 times.
Each time we did extremely fun activities that helped us learn just how much waste was around Earth, and how to create less waste.
On our first visit we did weaving and keychains with old t-shirts. It was super fun we did it with Tullia and Karen. We also did crochet out of shirts so what we did was we cut up shirts and tied it up into yarn and Aivah & Brooke showed everyone how to crochet.
On our second visit we did cooking with Karen and Tullia. We learnt how to save food waste. We made watermelon smoothies, salsa and cinnamon pears.
On visit 3 we did natural dye printing on fabric. Tullia took half of us out into the bush to get some leaves and bark to put on the fabric while the others were sewing their bags so we could be ready to put the leaves on the bag. Then we rolled them up and steamed them for one hour. After the first group came back Tullia took the other half to do the same thing.
This week, we were with Tullia and we played the card game called Big Fish it was really fun. It was kind of like Monopoly. After 2 games of big fish Tullia took us out to the garden and Tullia introduced us to Amy who filmed us doing fun things so Tullia has something to show new schools that have never been to the Sustainability Learning Centre. After meeting Amy we went to the garden and we tasted some of the crops they are growing. When we finished tasting we learnt how to plant mint and Tullia was nice enough to let us plant one for ourselves and take them home. After we planted our plants we went inside and labelled the plants. Then we all go to the bathroom to wash our hands because you never know what could be in that dirt. After we all wash our hands we go into the room where we played our first 2 games of big fish and we play one last round and then we say bye and thank you to all of the staff there especially Tullia and Karen.

Year Ten
As we come to the end of term three, we have been working hard as a year group on finalising our college transitions. Students have had information sessions at both Claremont and Elizabeth colleges; followed by sessions at school with staff from both colleges to help guide students with their course selections. Next term, we will submit final transition plans and then enjoy the transition days which are provided by the colleges.
We have had an excursion to TasTafe also this term to look at careers in hospitality. Students visited Drysdale in Hobart and looked at the various roles, responsibilities and career paths that Tafe has to offer. It was a valuable learning experience for those who attended.
Our second group of students involved in the PCYC Youthworks program graduated this
Wednesday. On their final day the students were presented with their certificates, gym membership and some photographs of moments from the past ten weeks. Students were able to reflect on some of their favourite memories from their time in the program and then they finished off their last day with Laser Skirmish and a lunch at Mures. We celebrate the achievements these students made; including their white card and first aid certificates which they will take with them into the next step of life. Mitch, Max, Zavy, Brodie, Thomas, Hayley F, Bella, Mia, Alana, Jayde and Sophie received lots of positive feedback about their engagement, commitment and participation in the program. We would like to thank Brooke and Aleesha from PCYC in supporting our students with this program.
From the group who completed PCYC in term one, we now have Destiny and Riley B working on the school site each Friday; learning skills in carpentry, plastering and general maintenance on a work site. It has been a great hands on opportunity for them and allows them to try different trades; ready for their next step. Again, we would like to thank VOS for allowing our students to be part of the work being completed. What a great opportunity.
We finished the term off with an activity day at the Aquatic centre in Hobart followed by a picnic lunch at the park. This day recognised the hard work, dedication and how students in Year Ten have been upholding the school values this term whilst allowing students time to connect with peers and staff.
As we move into the final term for Year Ten, we look forward to seeing what growth and progress students can make, the opportunities they engage in and how they make the most of the time that they have left at Cosgrove!
