PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
As Term 3 draws to a close, we are excited to reflect on the highlights and accomplishments of the past few months. This term has been one of great progress and positive change, and we couldn’t be prouder of our school community. I would like to congratulate all students who received an award at our end of Term assembly last week. Our values have certainly been living through the challenges we have faced with the recent wild and unpredictable weather as Spring sets upon us. Operating without the inside spaces of the past, our students showed great resilience throughout the term adjusting to the weather and inside lunch and recess times with cold weather and wild winds impacting us.
Record Family Participation in School Satisfaction Survey
This year, we are thrilled to report our highest-ever family participation in the School Satisfaction survey, with 67 responses. Your feedback is critical in guiding the future of Cosgrove High School, and we are grateful for your input.
Successful House Day
House Day was a resounding success, with all students participating in a variety of activities that fostered teamwork, school spirit, and engagement. It was wonderful to see students embracing the day with enthusiasm.
Students and Staff Basketball Competition
Throughout the term, our students and staff basketball competition has been a huge hit. Students had the unique opportunity to play alongside Teachers and Teacher Assistants in a fun and competitive environment. This has been a great way to strengthen the relationships within our school community while encouraging physical activity and teamwork.
Dojo Shop Success
Our dojo shop, part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) program, has been a fantastic success this term. Every student has accessed the dojo shop, earning rewards for demonstrating positive behaviour and upholding our school values. We are proud of our students for embracing this initiative and showing consistent efforts to create a positive school environment.
Learning Conversations Evening
We were delighted to see more than 70 families attend our Learning Conversations afternoon. It was a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to discuss student learning with teachers and to engage with student evidence of learning folders. The afternoon highlighted the strong partnership between home and school, ensuring that students' progress is supported by both families and teachers.
Attendance and Behaviour Improvements
We are incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made in improving student attendance. Our attendance rate has reached 70%, and for the first time in over five years, it is trending upward. Even more exciting is that over 100 students have improved their attendance from last year, representing almost a third of our school population. Additionally, suspensions have decreased by 15%, a positive trend we haven’t seen in five years. These improvements are a testament to the hard work of our students, staff, and families.
Redevelopment Progress
Despite the recent poor weather, the redevelopment works are progressing on schedule. The next phase will involve student engagement, where students will provide input for the artwork to be included as part of the build. We are excited to see our students’ creativity come to life in this important project.
Looking Ahead to Term 4
Next term, we are excited to undertake PAT testing across the school. This will help us measure the growth our students have made in Literacy and Numeracy throughout the year, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements while identifying areas where further support is needed. PAT data informs our School Improvement Planning, and it is very important that as many students as possible complete the testing. More information will be communicated early in Term 4.
Term 4 of course represents a significant phase of our Year 10’s journey through education as they embrace the transition into post Year 10 Senior Secondary education through attending welcome and connection days being held at local colleges. Our Year 9 students also get their first taste of what college life will be like through the Year 9 Taster Day at Claremont College.
Students will be given the opportunity to attend a Carees Expo, a STEM Workshop, a Tasmanian Chess Tournament and we will see a number of our students graduate from the Children’s University. We will also welcome all future Year 6 students into the school for the Year 7 Orientation Day.
The Term will conclude with our annual Prize Assembly, Year 10 Final Assembly and the Year 10 Graduation Dinner.
School Association
The School Association Christmas Raffle will be held during Term 4. The school will be calling for donations from business for the raffle and for the support of families in selling raffle tickets.
The School Association is also Supporting Harlen with his engagement with the Young Endeavour Program through a generous sponsorship towards his experience.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 30th October at 3.00pm
Thank you for your ongoing support throughout Term 3. We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for a productive and exciting Term 4.

Construction
Over the past 3 weeks the Construction Crew installed basketball rings in the Gym and outside near the entrance gate. Every afternoon students can challenge Mr Coe to a shootout.
We even collected all the items off the windowsills!
The construction crew are very proud of their work and would like to thank Mr McCaffery, Stewart and Dusty.
Harlen’s Windward Bound Adventure
We are thrilled to announce that Harlen has earned a coveted spot on the Windeward Bound Youth Leadership Challenge! This unique 10-day journey will see Harlen sailing along Tasmania's beautiful coastline aboard a tall ship, engaging in an immersive adventure that builds leadership, teamwork, and resilience.
The Windeward Bound Youth Leadership Challenge is a transformative experience designed to help young people grow through hands-on maritime activities. Harlen, alongside a diverse crew of peers, will participate in every aspect of ship life, from navigating and hoisting sails to learning key problem-solving and communication skills. The program encourages personal growth, pushing participants out of their comfort zones and fostering leadership skills in real-world scenarios.
What makes Harlen's experience even more exciting is that he will be journaling and documenting his entire journey. This will give us all a unique window into the daily challenges and triumphs he encounters at sea. Harlen’s journal will not only capture his personal reflections but also offer insight into the development of his leadership skills, teamwork efforts, and the valuable life lessons he’s gaining.
We look forward to reading Harlen’s accounts of this extraordinary experience and celebrating the growth he will undoubtedly bring back to our community. We are so proud of Harlen and can’t wait to share in the adventure!
